Ford Repair & Service in Cedar Rapids
F-150 to Mustang — every Ford gets expert attention.
Cedar Rapids Ford Specialists
Ford trucks and SUVs are the backbone of Iowa roads, and Cedar Automotive knows them inside and out. Whether you drive an F-150, Explorer, Escape, Mustang, Edge, or Ranger, we have the diagnostic tools and hands-on experience to keep your Ford running right. From routine oil changes to complex EcoBoost turbo repairs, we handle it all — without the dealership price tag.
Ford's modern drivetrains demand specialized knowledge. The 10-speed automatic transmission, EcoBoost turbo engines, and SYNC infotainment systems all require technicians who understand Ford-specific engineering. At Cedar Automotive we use professional-grade scanners that read Ford factory codes — not just generic OBD-II readers — so we find the real problem the first time.
We also service Ford Power Stroke diesel trucks, including the 6.7L and 6.0L platforms. Whether it's a turbo issue, injector replacement, or emissions system repair, our shop handles diesel work that most independent shops turn away. Located in Cedar Rapids near the regional airport, we make it easy to drop off your Ford and get on with your day.

Common Ford Issues We Diagnose and Repair
EcoBoost Timing Chain Wear
Ford 1.5L, 1.6L, 2.0L, and 3.5L EcoBoost engines (Escape, Edge, F-150, Explorer) develop timing chain wear that shows up as a cold-start rattle and P0016 / P0017 codes. We replace the chains, guides, tensioners, and phasers as a complete kit using updated Ford parts so the repair is one-and-done.
PowerShift DCT Failure (Focus / Fiesta)
2011–2018 Ford Focus and Fiesta use a dry-clutch PowerShift dual-clutch transmission that judders, slips, and throws codes. We run Ford-specific clutch learning procedures, replace clutch packs and input shaft seals when needed, and give an honest recommendation on whether repair or replacement makes sense for your specific vehicle and mileage.
5.4L Triton Spark Plug Thread Failure
2004–2008 F-150, Expedition, and Super Duty 5.4L 3-valve engines famously blow out spark plugs or break plugs off during removal because of shallow cylinder-head threads. We use the correct time-sert or heli-coil repair kit — not a glue-in — so threads are permanently restored and future plug changes do not turn into a tear-down.
3.5L EcoBoost Cam Phaser Rattle
F-150 and Expedition 3.5L EcoBoost engines develop a loud cam phaser rattle at cold start, especially 2011–2016 trucks. Ford issued updated phasers, chains, and calibration. We install the full updated timing kit, reprogram the PCM with the latest Ford calibration, and verify clean operation before handing the truck back.
6F35 Automatic Transmission
Escape, Fusion, and MKZ 6F35 transmissions judder, flare on 2–3 upshifts, and throw solenoid codes. Fluid service with the correct Ford Mercon LV and solenoid body work often fixes the problem short of a full rebuild. We diagnose with Ford IDS scan tool data, repair the specific failure, and avoid selling an entire transmission when one is not needed.
Coolant Intrusion (3.5 EcoBoost / 3.7 Duratec)
Some 3.5L EcoBoost and 3.7L Cyclone engines develop internal coolant intrusion into a cylinder through a cracked head or failed intake manifold gasket. Symptoms include overheating under load and white steam from the tailpipe. We pressure-test, perform a chemical combustion-gas check, and quote the repair honestly based on what the test reveals.

Ford Repair FAQ
Can Cedar Automotive service my Ford EcoBoost in Cedar Rapids?
Yes. Ford EcoBoost 1.5L, 2.0L, 2.3L, and 3.5L engines are among the most common we see. We handle timing chain service, cam phaser replacement, intercooler condensation issues, and turbo diagnostics using dealer-level Ford IDS equipment. Whether you drive an Escape, Edge, F-150, or Explorer, Cedar Automotive has the tools and experience. Call (319) 450-7584 for a diagnostic appointment.
Do you repair Ford PowerShift DCT transmission problems?
Yes — 2011–2018 Focus and Fiesta PowerShift transmissions are a regular repair for us. We run the Ford-specific clutch learn procedure, replace clutch packs and input shaft seals when needed, and give an honest recommendation rather than selling a full replacement when a repair will hold. Some PowerShift complaints are just learning-value resets — we find out before touching the gearbox.
Can you fix Ford 5.4 Triton spark plug thread failures?
Yes. The 2004–2008 5.4L 3-valve Triton is infamous for stripped or broken spark plug threads. We use the correct time-sert thread repair, not a glue-in insert, so the threads hold permanently and future plug changes are routine. We also replace all eight plugs with the updated two-piece Motorcraft plug to avoid the next round of failures.
Do you program Ford keys and fobs without the dealer?
Yes — we program Ford keys, intelligent access keys, and PATS transponder keys for F-150, Escape, Explorer, Mustang, Edge, and Super Duty trucks at independent-shop pricing. Cedar Automotive carries dealer-level Ford key programming access in-house. Call (319) 450-7584 so we can confirm your Ford model year and security type before you come in.
